Smartphone Sales Fall In China For The First Time

In China, the world’s largest smartphone market is getting smaller.

Smartphone sales fell 4 percent during the second quarter of 2015, according to new figures from Gartner, a market research firm. It’s the first time sales of the devices has fallen in China year over year, Gartner says.

“China has reached saturation—its phone market is essentially driven by replacement, with fewer first-time buyers,” said Anshul Gupta, research director at Gartner. Gupta says that smartphone makers will need to rely on premium appeal to drive upgrades and new purchases.
